Which electronic ignition?

I am going to go electronic on the '76 and was wanting some opinions.

All stock? The Pertronix is good value- for- money.

The Crane 700 has worked flawlessly in Jenn's car for 8 years,

my street points/MSD combo is a bit sloppy,

and the P-tronix/MSD 6AL in the race car is rock solid.

273 cam, 32/36 has to pass smog and I am probably going to give it to my daughter when she turns 16 so I want reliable and easy to trouble shoot. She doesn't live anywhere near me so I will not be able to work on the car once she has it. Hopefully I will poison another youth with the sickness we share though.

You could also go completely electronic with an electromotive system like the HPV-1, HPX, or later models.

According to Crane, if the motor is more of a stock comp ratio and not real modded up high perf type then the XR3000 with the PS-60 coil is right. I have it on the 72 and it has been fine.

If you want an electronic ignition you have to chase the other options like Crane or the MSD.

I have the Crane XR-700 with a red coil and red coil resistor. I have ran that set up for 4 years with no problems. I even have the control box in the hottest part of the engine bay and it has peformed flawlessly.

Crane's tech support folks are very helpful if you stumble on installation. I used them to determine if a resistor was needed for the red coil.
