found a potential project...but it's been sitting

Greetings

I owned a 2002 many years ago and ran across a decent local candidate. It's a '73, decent blue paint (i.e., it will probably polish out), was well-maintained by its owner until about 6 years ago (dealer service with ridiculous receipts to prove it), basically stock (Weber and a newer drivers seat)...

Problem is that it has been sitting for six years straight. Rust is only superficial for the most part near the aluminum belt trim on the trunklid and in a couple other places where the original paint was weak. No problem rust (shock towers, front subframe, etc). Rubber seals are getting near done. Interior is 6 or 7 out of 10. Clutch pedal just swings with no resistance, so I assume the slave is garbage.

I figure with gentle treatment/oil soak and a fluid change the motor can be restarted...the slave/master/brakes may be iffy after all the time.

What would you offer? $500? $700?

Thanks.

$500 is about right. Especially for a car that has not run in many years. Usually they can be restarted, but that depends on the environment where it was stored.

The clutch could be hydraulics, and there is a chance its something mechanical, which is why the car was parked in the first place.... just a thought.

Good point. Why was it left sitting all those years?

Water pump started to go. New owner just got a newer car.

Deal with him a little. Feel it out, does he want rid of it? Act like you don't need another project and start complaining about your wife, and then offer 300 and end at 425....Pay what the owner think it is worth. It would be a fun project of it's not too far gone. Put the engine on a stand and maybe find a 5sp transmission for it while you work on the body for paint. If you want a project and a 2002 go for it. Time and space it the issue, but you only live once.
