WTB:  1974-1976 Jack hold down & lug wrench

Although the jack and lug wrench hold-down for 1974-76 cars is specific to those years, the lug wrench itself -- assuming you are also looking for a lug wrench -- is simply a carryover from the earlier cars. My '76's original lug wrench -- I bought the car new -- has the same "wheel cover removal tool" as my earlier cars had, although not needed on a car that has no wheel covers. I'll admit, I don't recall my '67's lug wrench, but I recall my '70's lug wrench, as well as that of a '72 I parted, and I also currently have a '73.

 

Has anyone seen a different style of factory lug wrench, e.g., for the earliest cars?

I’ve only seen black painted hold-downs for square taillight jack/lug wrenches (first photo).

 

And I would have said exactly the same thing for the 1966 through 1974 spare tire hold-down, until... I came across one that was yellow zinc or cadmium plated (second and third photos)! Was this example re-plated a zillion years ago? Was this example a replacement part — many of which had different finishes from the original factory parts? Or does it simply reflect the full range of factory finishes?

 

If I wanted to draw less attention to the jack/lug wrench hold-down, I’d powdercoat or paint it semi-gloss black. If I wanted it to be a topic of discussion, I’d have it plated in yellow zinc!

 

Oh, yeah: I’ve only ever seen the 1975-76 spare tire hold-down in plated form. Well... so far... ? (fourth photo)
