Are Massive Brakes track kit too much for street?

Recommended Posts

After 45 years of driving street cars, race cars and towing, the only argument against huge brakes that I am willing to entertain is that your dedicated autocross car needs to stop hard only once in a run and the unsprung weight is unjustified in that application. Otherwise, convince me of the downside?

The autocross car was the only car I said had too much brake. When it became a road race car the huge brakes were re fitted.

I do recall over driving the brakes on mountain roads in my street car and remedying that situation as well.

Here is a photo of the brakes on my 5th wheel that I converted, electrically actuated hydraulic 4 piston calipers with 13'' vented rotors. People on the RV forums argue that the electrically actuated dumb...I mean drum brakes, work fine for them. Which would you rather have?

On a #3500 (loaded) car trailer behind a #6500 truck, the drum brakes DO work.

If you insist on bringing your entire house with you, you SHOULD have brakes the size of pizza pans.
