Aussie02 resto

Hi all. I thought it was about time I shared some pics of my 1969 2002 resto. Full bare metal and now being built up. Loads of challenges but going pretty well. e4c774ddd8f90d7dd67714e4187e1268.jpg4b50512b4cfb4a3bce063dcbaf309c2c.jpgf0dc8227952ee6c5baf1c4f3f8e2984a.jpgce62df35dddd4318600d1f2387576f68.jpg54fe4d4193ad65025988282605dd2471.jpg9926d638ec8b31063ed08c3a75665bb7.jpga312fd515067f3ec28f3758444a76dfe.jpgf69d7c0207807f26acf05755f5cb5f01.jpga80e69871db641d115f860c4c75c8bec.jpg57a98d05e0b81d0bc6f4a2861055762e.jpg

Lots to do. Some details

Rebuilt harnesses

Rebuilt heater box new core seals and motor

Rebuilt engine

IE front and rear springs, sways and shocks

All nuts and brackets etc stripped primed and painted

New brakes

New brake lines

Donor car looking a little worse for wear now

Gear box next in line

Front and rear subframes stripped and rebuilt.

Any observations and comments welcome

Cheers.

Nice to see another 69 getting restored!  It's a lot of work but you will be happy in the end.  What is the VIN?  I see 6 fuse hole in the fenderwell, but a later Roundie gauge cluster.  Before you go any further, are you going to upgrade the seat belts? I recommend adding a threaded fitting to the b pillar so you can use retractable type 3 point belts. Are you going to keep the wiring stock or adding some relays for the lights?

Well spotted!! Vin 1650781
B pillar inserts done.
6 fuse is a pain but I can work around that. I’ve added a new loom and relay for lights but rest of wiring is stock.
I’m not sure yet how compatible the cluster is but mostly my testing it seems ok.
Also converting to dual circuit brakes.

Nice to see another Aus car getting some love. What city are you in? I'm in Brisbane.

The early cluster (silver dollar type like in a 69) has different length mounting studs on the back compared to the 71-73 black faced cluster.  Make sure you test fit the one you want to use before committing.  The 3-piece dash may not allow the black-faced gauge cluster to sit far enough back to secure the knurled nuts.

That’s great info. Thanks. Does the 2 piece dash from a 71 fit into a 69? I can therefore use the matching cluster?

I believe you can use a 2 piece dash in your car.  Just have to get the correct heater controls and dash cluster.  3 piece dash has different heater lever control mounting.

Oh wait - your car is European. Assume it has the chrome pieces on the bottom of the lower section?

It’s a RHD car. I’ve got a mix of pieces for the bottom half but the two piece dash is likely what I’ll use. I think the 69 loom for the heater is different to what is needed for 71 heater. Perhaps only one speed. So I’ve got to work through that also.
