Short weekend drive 8/19...

Hi all,

I'm looking to do a fun little drive this weekend, and thought some of you guys might be interested.  It'll be a chance for a meet-up too.  All vintage bimmmer enthusiasts welcome.

It's one of my fave close drives I call the Canyon Coffee Run.  (Some of us have done it together before). See pics attached for the route and its options. Based on weather/interest it's anywhere from a 1-2 hour drive.

If interested, the meet-up would be on Saturday 8/19  at ~10am in the parking lot of Tipsy's - just off the Bowles and E470 exit.  I'm thinking we'd depart around 1/2hr later...

Likely just an out to Conifer for either Starbucks/Sonic then back via Meyer Ranch and Tinytown via Turkey Creek Canyon  over to South Valley park, though I'm thinking of a return route up through Evergreen and back via Morrison after the Conifer stop as well...

It's hard to arrange a widely agreeable date/time for a meet - it often pushes things out.  Maybe a later larger event (early Sept?) can be arranged when more can join - but I'm going driving this weekend anyway, and don't mind company ;-P

ps:70s and clear - what's not to like? :D  If no replies, I might skip stopping at Tipsy's (great deli there BTW) beforehand.

Tom,

Am getting ready for the D4C (Denver to Purgatory Ski Resort) drive next weekend and found I needed some new gaskets on the S14 exhaust manifold test ports.  Dealer is bringing them in Monday.  So I am just relaxing and waiting for the eclipse this weekend.

Jim

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

Hey Jim,

Good luck on your D4C trip!  Hope you have great weather.  Doing the final pm before a trip will occasionally throw a surprise.  We'll likely catch up in Sept -- I might try to pull something together again with more notice...

"Waiting for the eclipse" - isn't that an old heavy metal tune? :D

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
