trouble starting tii after pump throttle linkage sync

Recommended Posts

Thanks in advance for any guidance/suggestions.

74 tii that has been maintenance free for 15 years. Started to get the hesitation at 3k RPM after engine was warmed up. Did my research and saw how it was likely due to a lean mixture after the warm up transmitter had reached its' limit.

Ordered the 4 mm pin for the throttle body and and 5mm hook for the pump and synced them up on the linkage clamp. Prior to the adjustment, the cam was 3 or 4 mm away from the pin.

Now it won't start? I have fuel in the throttle body went trying to start. I tested and have spark. I know you need fuel, spark and air. Is air my problem? Any help would be appreciated because I am stumped.

If the gap between the cam and pin inside the tuna can was 3-4 mm before you adjusted it you have richened the mixture a lot by "adjusting" it. It is quite possible you have flooded it and fouled the spark plugs.  Try removing he plugs and see if they are "wet". Without knowing how all of the other adjustments are set it would be hard to diagnose this but I would suspect the warm up regulator may not be working correctly and holding the external mixture arm in a richened position, maybe someone has "adjusted" the "Verboten screw".  Your cold start injector may be running too long or even leaking (the fuel in the throttle body is a hint this might be part of the problem)  There are many small adjustments that make a huge difference on a Tii and having someone that knows what they are doing is a huge help.  You can learn on your own but it is a long process, many of the "experts" have been playing with these things for 30+ years and still are discovering new problems and fixes every time they work on one.
