ALPINA dry sump pump

About six months ago I acquired a NOS Heidegger Dry sump pump along with belts and drives for a RIDICULOUSLY low price (try $500).

My friend Andreas who has been selling the NOS AlpinA pumps on Ebay has a Heidegger motor so naturally a Heidegger pump would suit

his motor perfectly.... we decided to make a trade, he gets the Heidegger pump and bits, I get the AlpinA pump and various bits.    I have

an AlpinA motor and my car did use this AlpinA 3-stage pump when it was raced.  Currently the motor is being rebuilt with a Schnitzer 2-stage

DS pump.  Since I am missing a pan and a filter head for the AlpinA system AND because I am pretty far down the road with the engine build

(and the engine builder would probably kill me if I came to him with a different system....) probably for now going to stay with the Schnitzer

system.  Not sure exactly how Andreas came into so many of these, he must have sold 8 (?) or so, this one he has advertised now is probably

the last.  Will be doing a follow-up to my post (below) with all the parts and pieces including an original line diagram from AlpinA.  Cool stuff.

Mark,

I purchased one from Andreas for my Luigi CSL. It matched what was on the motor perfectly. We did have a bit of trouble at first getting it to rotate, but after some cleaning and lube it worked perfectly.

Looking forward to steady oil pressure all summer.. ;-)

I haven't fooled with it too much, though I can tell the gears are pretty stiff (good to know).  From what I understand, these are extremely good pumps (though I don't know that there is a pump out there better (more efficient than the Heidegger pumps), but then that pump wasn't original to my car (neither is the Schniter pump that I have now).  I have taken a lot steps backwards with this car so I don't know that I currently have the mettle to take a backwards step on this one.  Current plan is to finish the motor with the Schnitzer system and then if I have time before Monterey 2016 potentially retrofit the AlpinA system.  I am going to have a couple of things done that will make the retrofit easier in the event I decide and or have time to make the switch.  Low oil pressure in high revving race motor = bad.

Posted this up today, pump, drive gears, bracketry and belts.  Just need to sort out the oil filtering/pressure in and the pan.  One of my friends shared a pretty cool schematic from AlpinA, many years ago they sold along with the pump kits.  I did some translation on it which makes it easy for those who can't speak German to read.....loosely translated.
