Getting ready to start my 73 tii after it sat for 20 yrs.  I have done all the prep work everyone suggested. For initial testing/checking I used the starter to turn it over a with all the fuses pulled and did a compression test.  It occurred to me that I did not ground the wire going from the coil to the dist during this process.

Can a coil be damaged if not properly disconnected and/or grounded?

How do I test for a damaged/bad coil?

Did I see a post here that a basic generic coil will work fine if I need one this weekend?

Thanks.  TR
