The trim is anodized (hardened) aluminum. You can't really refurbish it, except to clean it with an aluminum cleaner. Many years ago, I tried to refurbish some trim by wet sanding all of the scratches from the surface, but if you break through the anodized layer, you will be dealing with fairly soft aluminum that requires constant upkeep to look good.

The trim is really expensive, but if you have a bad piece, buy new and replace. It will last another 30 years.
