I found 185-60/14 to be ideal on a slightly lowered car. A little TINY bit smaller diameter perhaps than the original 175-13s, but it offered no downside. No clearance issues, and decent tires are available still.

Some 195s have been known to hit strut tubes.

Paul, Paul, Paul... I'm surprised at you. :-) Original tire size was 165r13 (which I understand is about a "78" aspect ratio). I run 185/65r14 on my 2000cs wheels (5.5" wide), and am pleased, but the 60-series would be more sporting.
