Those look like 2.5" springs to me... You should be able to use stock springs but why? If you're going that far use 2.5" springs sine they're cheaper and more available

How did you remove this?

We just cut it off and welded in the tiny holes.

There is no need to remove anything. The sleeve just slides over that piece. Some force might be required. This set up allows you to use 5" spring and not the 2.5" spring.
