front grill tip for pre 74 cars!

Since I don't have $800 for a new set of headlight grilles laying around (I even lifted up the couch cushions...nope...nuthin' there) I figured I'd try my hand at freshening up a very tired pair of pre 74 anodized grilles that were given to me.

Trust me when I say they were fuggly beforehand.

I used a heat gun and removed the black slat covers (took a while...softened the adhesive then pulled them off - burning my fingers on each damn one).

Used 000 steel wool (triple zero) fine. "Polished" all the silver anodized surface. Then hit 'em with a rattle can of gloss clear. The results were amazing. Took about 15-20 minutes to polish each one. The wool takes off all the stains and bugs too.

I didn't want to spent 36 hours removing the anodizing, then polishing them, only to have them "re-anodized" for even more money....so I figured I'd give it a shot with the steel wool....super happy with the results. Just make sure you use 000 wool. NOT the coarser stuff.

From 5 feet away they look NEW! And before you ask: I tried similar experiment with the belt line trim...mine has a permanent/deep haze to it and doesn't shine up as well as the grilles did.

No. I'm still not painting the F Bomb. Fuck it.
