That's great - check out the front suspension design and sump. Was the 1500 really like that or were the brochure designers given some early drawings that nevr made it to production?

That's a good question. I've never been anywhere near a 1500 in person, so I don't have the slightest idea.

Well the rear half shafts certainly never looked like that and I'm 99.9 percent sure the front end is the same as later cars/02s (just with the skinnier control arms). Dont know about the sump though.

You've got keen eye sight. I finally see what you're talking about in regards to the half shafts. I'm not sure about the sump either.

Not seen a BMW centre section of exhaust with two boxes either.

If only I'd poked my head under this 1500 in June.

It has the early air box on top of the unique cam cover, plus loads of other little detail differences to my '65 1600.

I wonder if Japan had/has certain emissions standards. This is what RealOEM has listed for a European 1500's exhaust system.

yep - looks the same as my 1600 came with - same design as what's available now, but a smaller bore. Are you saying Japan had two centre boxes as per that earlier diagram? Plus it's not going to effect emissions, only noise, and they're not exactly noisy!

RealOEM doesn't have a diagram of a Japanese 1500 exhaust system, so it's hard to be sure if that's the case.

I bet the guy at BMW - M10 Life knows the answer to that.
