Appreciate all the help with this... 69' 1600 VIN 1566759

the red flaky one (assuming painted by PO) was attached on the drivers side fender near the headlight. The plastic holder behind it is not BMW, but has a BMW three prong plug terminated into it...that plug holder is right next to the Bosch thing and is able to plug into it but wasn't. Any ideas on that situation?

Voltage regulator, the box thing. Maybe someone upgraded your alternator and left the old one in there?
