Is this the EGR valve in the image? just to the left of the radiator near the bottom hose in the pic?

no - that would be the coolent thermostat

that photo is of a modified motor with Electronic

Fuel Injection and it's very doubtful

anyone would leave power robbing, carbon

fouling the intake - EGR (Exhaust Gas Regurgatation)

system on it ?

well, that's just an uninformed opinion right there.

An EGR valve actually is one of the few things that don't really hurt

performance on your average engine, and does a lot to clean up emissions.

but i think if the egr valve were bad it would cause a lot of problems. and i think the problem from what ive read is that they tend to go bad quite often.
