shift knob question

The shifter is a short shifter from ireland that I got in a parts lot that I bought. no shift knob, looking to get on, but not sure on how it would attach to this shifter...there are no threads, just the shifter with a slot in the top of it? Is this normal, is there another piece I'm missing?

it just sounds like a late model BMW lever that will accept a late knob. they click on rather than screw on. Get a ZHP knob

I just installed an Aardvark short shift kit that used a push on knob on the lever. I wanted to use the leather BMW Roundel threaded knob that was already on the car. I didn't want a 5 or 6 speed pattern on my 4 speed. What I needed was a 15 mm x 1.5 pitch thread cutting die. The aluminum shaft is slightly undersize but knob threads right on. Just use some thread lock or teflon tape, tighten the locking nut under the knob and your good to go.

Finding a 15 mm die locally can be a challenge. I got mine from:

I bet it's an e21 shift rod. Mine is slotted.

how do you like the Aardvark 4 speed ssk? i was thinking of getting one. how can i telll if i have the later tranny? i don't think the ssk will work on the earlier ones.

I got the "extreme" model. Really shortened up the throw. Replaced the shift tower bushings and shifter rod bushings. That tightened up the pattern too.
