Moose update

Recommended Posts

Well folks its been a while since i updated work on the Moose - my 1969 2000A sedan. She's currently on stands at the "Bucktown Speedshop" - aka my buddy Jeff's garage. Rear Midas shocks have been replaced by a set of NOS Koni's from Reverand Al. Two of the four wheels are blasted and painted, but the Krylon Matte Aluminum was not the correct colour, so they're going to get another coat of Dull Aluminum as soon as i can get my hands on some. Front struts have been rebuilt, and are now reassembled, and a non cracked head has been sourced, (Thanks Mike!!!) last but not least, front lower control arms and strut rod bushings have been replaced. Ive attached some pics for any of you that have interest.

I'm glad I could help!

Is it still possible to measure the total length of the strut assembly, or have they been installed already? I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my struts and their NLA strut top bearings.

Mike, They're not installed yet, so im happy to measure them for you, but i dont know that they're compatable. Did you try Carl Nelson at La Jolla Independent? He possibly might have a line on some.

  • 1 year later...

its been a while, so it's about time to give another update. A lot of little stuff has been getting done.

After getting the car running, we ran it over to my friend Ben's to be dialed in, and have an alignment done. Also, Ben replaced the ignition switch so now for the first time in countless years it now starts with a key again.

There were a few electrical gremlins that needed to be sorted, and now everything lights when it should, and the fuses stay unblown (thanks David M.) .

The high beam switch was missing when i got the car, but now has been replaced (thanks Mike P!)

The old brake fluid resevoir was broken and zip tied in place, that's been replaced and now sits properly. All of the door strikers were broken and the all important gray grommets that sit on the latches were missing so you had to slam the doors to close them. No more, they're all replaced and the doors close beautifully.

Last will be resurecting the windshield washer system.

Cosmetically i replaced the missing rear roundel and 2000 emblem as well as the licence plate lights so it all looks complete.

The repairs and fixes continue, but I can tell you it runs and drives like a champ!

Cheers,

Martin

Restoring the hubcaps was a fun adventure. First i had to gingerly work out the dents. Then thanks to Autosol I was able to remove 40 years of grime and brake dust. Last was removing and replacing the worn roundels. The finished products looked quite good. Bit by bit the pieces are getting back onto the car as they are found. The latest was the original cold air intake with diverter to pull warm air off the header.

I replaced the original USA only headlights with the proper euro squarelights. Before doing that a friend of mine sent them out to have the reflectors resilvered and the he restored the rest of them, they're like new and look fantastic.

The doors were all hard to close, you had to shut them hard for them to close. All the doors were missing the gray "nubs" on the latches, and the strikers on the B and C pillars were all broken. A friend of mine donated some spares that he had media blasted. a few minutes work and all the doors close effortlessly. Last the licence plate lights were replaced and the missing roundel and 2000 emblems were replaced. The Moose now has a hot butt once again...LOL
