M42 engine conversion

Recommended Posts

Well it is official! I pulled the drivetrain today and got it down to a rolling chassis. As much as I would love to do a supercharger, I can do a turbo system in house for a great deal cheaper, so it looks like that is the way we will be going! Nothing over the top, just a little extra go! I will be pulling both front and rear sub frames for rebushing this week and will hopefully be picking up the free drivetrain late next week. I will try to load some pictures and an update once we start to mock everything up. Also, everything that came out will be for sale! Two barrel manifold, M10 E21 2.0 engine, solex tsp barrel carb stock air cleaner and so forth. Auto tranny is already spoken for.

The m42 conversion is really all not that hard. I have done one on my 02... I am very happy with it. Starts perfect every time and is a rev happy little guy.

That is kind of what I am hoping for. I don't need a whole lot of power, I just want something comfortable, that requires a little less maintenance. That and it is free!!! I do not expect the installation to be very difficult at all. Especially with the extra tunnel room afforded me by the automatic!

If you have any questions as you go along feel free to email me. I have a pin out of the c101 and can email you a scan of my notes on all the wiring. I have about 4000 miles on my swap and haven't had to do anything sense, at least anything related to the swap.

I swapped the oil pan on the 318 last weekend

(Jiffy Lube really fu*ked it up for the PO)

and was underimpressed by the size of the bearing journals.

I'm spoiled by the M10.

Jake,

What manifold are you using?

Will this maniforld work w/ the 02? My conversion will include a turbo

666Fab.com...Turbo

304ss tubular top mount turbo manifold for E30 318is with the DOHC M42 4 cylinder. Designed with a 4 into 1

merge collector and 1.68" ID runners for high flow capability. Available T25/T28, T3, or T4 flanges as well as

any wastegate flange of your choice. Wastegate placement will be on the rear of the collector. Turbo

placement allows for many turbo choices. Slight bending of a 3" section of the frame rail pinch weld for

clearance of the collector.
