M2

This sweet '76 found me needing a new home and someone to take care of it. I headed to CA with a buddy just as the monstrous fire started to destroy Paradise (I grew up just down the hill from there.) It started, ran, drove and the price was close enough so we loaded it on the trailer and headed back to CO.

It's a '76 with a rather complete e30m3 swapped into it, including AC, power steering, cruise control, subframes, suspension, brakes, everything.  They even relocated the strut tops for the m3 struts to have the proper castor angle.

It still needs a lot of love, like finishing some bodywork, paint, a complete interior, things like that. I'm thinking about box fenders instead of the flares that are on there. Maybe paint it white with the 3 color stripes over the top like the Group A m3... Maybe just spray clear over the top of what's there now. Don't know, but i do need to go through it mechanically first...

So here area few pictures to get started...

Definitely following this.  It actually looks well put together. I would love to see some more detail regarding the subframes / mountings / hard points etc.  I am in awe of people who can do this kind of thing.

Interesting suspension set up. I almost did this same thing on my 1974 2002. I had E30 M3 front struts with a BBK and MZ3 rear trailing arms. Glad to see someone else actually went through with it!

Apparently they siamesed the rear subframe chassis mounts of the 02 to the rest of the subrame from the m3 to get it to bolt up to the 02.  I'll get more pictures.

It's the weirdest thing when you open the hood- struts are in the wrong spot.

I can tell you this, I have ALL the records from when they worked on the car, including boxes full of actual pictures, binders full of notes on the entire build.  There are documented over 700 hours of labor, broken down by what got done each day.  Dude paid for all of that AND the m3 to strip AND the 02.  Granted the cars were less expensive back in the 90's, but still.

Top hanging pedals from the m3, too.  Whole thing is just over the top.  Seems like a nice little car, just needs some love.

Inspect those drilled rotors closely for cracking between the holes...

Very interesting project Dave.  Hope to see it in Eureka.

Eureka as in upstate California Eureka?  I made the drive across 80 to pick this thing up- I do not relish the thought of that drive again any time soon...  Why don't we meet around SLC?  Miller Motorsports Park is close by- I bet I could arrange for an affordable track day...  I mean, or if you guys want to come out to CO, I know I can arrange for a track day at a couple of different places.

What’s the price tag on this unique car?

This is interesting.  You're the second person in 2 days to think the car is for sale.  This is the blog section not the classified section.

But like I told the other guy, an s14 engine and ecu, just like in this car, sold for $14k the other day on fleaBay.  And this car legally passes emissions in California, complete with CARB paperwork...  So for the right price, sure, I'll sell it.  :)  What's your offer?

The build has all the right components. I’m that other guy. Truth is I don’t know the price, you’re the only person who will. For someone who’s looking to build it, the number would have to the “right” price. I might as well do the sourcing for the project myself! I’ll definitely stay in touch. Good luck and congrats either way
