Headlining Install Question

I am doing a headlining install at the moment. The problem I have encountered is that for the bar in the front there are two holes. Although I believe that the hole mostly to the front is the correct one, everything adds up more smoothly when placing the bar in the other one, but since that hole is a little bit lower the lining is more straight towards the roof edge, not sloping towards it.

A bit difficult to see, but the first one is 21 cm exactly from the other bar. and the second is almost 24cm.

Could anyone shed some light on wihich one to use?

which one tightens the headliner most...look the each holes height...headliner bows should be in a straight line & holes look to be different sizes

 

 

just a suggestion...you might want to reconsider the heavy carpet padding you have on the roof of the car before it's to late...the roof get really hot & most adhesives will release in that kind of heat...if that padding comes unglued, it'll pull your headliner down with it

I agree with Esty on both counts.  Also - which one of those (2) holes will the plastic button fit in better compared to the other one?

 

It also appears the one @ 24cm is aligned better to the front one.

You are both right, the hole at 24cm is the one where the plastic button has an easier fit. But the hole at 21cm seems to be more correct when I fit the headliner. The hole at the front is at the exact same level as the other ones, the other one is a little bit lower and smaller. 

 

I can take some more pics this evening, with headlining attached so that you understand what I mean by a better fit.

 

Regarding the padding, they are self-adhesive 8 mm, but I have used some other contact-glue in addition to keep it on. I have changed the roof on the car as well, due to one of the P.Os had roofed it. The old roof had a ton of bondo on top, and to keep the roof from not caving in, they had reinforced it using some wood-paneling glued under the ceiling. Much heavier than the padding, that held alright, but off course temperatures here in Norway are very seldom over 25C in the summer. I dont think it will be a problem but will nonetheless keep it in mind when parking the car ;-)

Helpful Hint!  If you don't already know, go to the stationary store and get a bunch of these little clips. They make the job a lot easier.

Finally got to take the pictures. Her are two pics first with the headlining installed in the hole at 24cm. Notice the angle of the loop pointing backward.

Here is the headlining installed in the hole at 21cm. Notice that the loop is now much more 90 derees to the lining and roof.

Can someone find out where the bar is supposed to be installed? It is possible to push the headlining a bit and feel where the bar is. I don't have access to another 02

I need this to be able to move on with my restoration.
