  1. OK. I have two coils that came with the car. An MSD coil and a brand new Bosch coil.. I measure the resistance of both. The MSD coil shows a resistance of ~0.9 ohms and the Bosch coil shows a resistance of ~1.9 ohms. Not sure how new the distributor is but it seems pretty recent. Based on that, it would seem that I do not need the restore wire?
  2. Thanks for the insight. My car had an MSD box added at some point. It is currently disconnected and the car is running a straight setup with a Bosch coil. As far as I can tell, there is simply a straight wire running to the coil from the fuse box. What does the .9 ohm resistance do for me? Obviously it was put in for a reason. Is is bad to run without it?
  3. Just curious gentlemen. What if the "clear" .9 ohm wire does has been replaced by a straight wire? What happens? I am sorting a 74 tii with lots of wiring foolishness.
  4. Thanks. I purchased a plastic fan from Bluntt and will just need a motor.

  6. I suspected it was the same motor but could not verify and did not want to be wrong. Thanks for the heads up. Jeff
  7. Thanks. I looked there. They all say "out of stock".
  8. All, Looking for a replacement motor for the heater box fan on a 74 tii. Anyone have one they are willing to part with for a reasonable price? Thanks.
  9. Old post but do you still have this? I am beginning to undertake rebuilding mine but could just use yours.
  10. While waiting for Jim and Deborah to free up I am sorting other issues on my list. Replaced the fuel pump with the modern Bosch version. The how-to from this site was a blessing. Replaced all the fuel lines and filters while I was at it. All is good. Next I am attacking the heater box rebuild. I am certain the fan motor is shot. I have been researching alternatives on the FAQ site. The only definitive recommended alternative seems to be the Bosch 0 130 007 002. Of course the ones for $80 seem to be out of stock. Best I can find is $175 on eBay. A location to buy one for under $100 would be very welcome. I will also be buying the Blunt rebuild kit for the box and the valve. Only want to do this once! Thanks.
  11. Thanks. I believe your course of action makes sense. I have the receipts from the motor replacement. It was a long block replacement back in 2000. Because of the helicoil, the head has to come off. The only question is whether it is better to spend a bit more energy and pull the whole thing and sort it right. We shall see what the diagnosis yields...
  12. I met with Jim and Deborah. They seem like the right folks for the job and I am pretty confident they can help me get to the right solution. It may take a little while to rise to the top of their queue but I will sort other issues while I wait. Thanks again to all who replied to my plea for help. More to come when I get a definitive diagnosis.
  13. Sirs, I just did this replacement on my 74tii and used 1/8" silicone gasket material. I have not seen any reference to the fact that if you mount the pump with the inlet toward the rear of the vehicle it interferes with the passenger side rotating drive shaft. How come with all the blogs out there nobody has brought this up? Very frustrating. I ended up putting the inlet toward the front of the car and the smaller output hose now misses the shaft by about 1/4". Makes me a little nervous but it works.
  14. All, I just completed the E28 upgrade to my 74 tii. As I test fit it to reinstall, it looks like the input hose (now on the opposite side) comes dangerously close to the drive shaft exiting the differential. Has anyone had the problem and should I be concerned? Many seem to have doe this mod so I am guessing it is OK but it sure makes me nervous. Any thoughts or experiences are welcome.
  15. Sirs, I have just completed the same conversion (with an in-line clear glass filter just because I could) and am ready to reinstall the pump. The new outlet location looks like it comes VERY close to the passenger side rotating differential output shaft. I have not actually installed it yet but it is making me nervous just test fitting it. Has anyone else had this issue?
  16. Thanks. am in contact with Jim and Deborah at this point. They are about an hour away. I have run it about 50 freeway miles. Cylinder #1 seems to be fouling pretty bad. No smoke though. I will keep investigating but it is probably beyond my expertise (and tools) to fully evaluate. The forum has been great. I will continue to post and interact going forward.
  17. Runs "fair". Idles a bit rough. Stalls occasionally when hot. Did dry compression on all four. #1 130# (think it may be oil compromised, plug was very fouled.) #2 110# #3 100# #4 100# These numbers are about 30# lower than a measurement from 2006. #3 looks like it had a helicoil put in it that is now missing. Probably came out with a plug at some point. So at least the head needs a rework. The question is, if I am going that far is it better to just go all the way? Leakdown test next?
  18. Thanks for the input. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
  19. All, This is my first post on the site. The good news is I am the proud new owner of a Sahara 74tii. This is my third 2002 but my first in 30 years. Good no rust car with lots of aftermarket goodies. Now the bad news. Through poor diligence on my part and some mild deception from the PO, the Metric Mechanics motor has poor compression and may need a rebuild. Not absolutely sure it is the bottom end but it seems that way. I live on the East Coast of Central Florida and am looking for a trustworthy, reputable shop to get me through my darkest hour. Any help/suggestions/sympathy from the group would be much appreciated.
