  1. I pulled the window and frame. It turns out the rivets had both "elongated" over time and were allowing the upper hinge to move aft just enough to create an interference. Per someone else's post, I drilled out the rivets and replaced them. Fished work is below. All is right with the world...
  2. I am looking for at least one (would buy two) of these brackets before I bite the bullet and fabricate one. It is the one that goes on the front, short vertical leg of the vent window. Not the bottom one. Thanks.
  3. I just completed a rebuild with German Motorwerks in Orlando. Jim and Deborah know there stuff and worked through multiple issues with my motor. (407) 699-4151‬
  4. Thanks for the replies so far. I have not done any work on the windows but it is clear as I work my way through the car that it was pretty far apart at some point. I am fairly sure most gaskets have been replaced as well. Also, the drivers window regulator has been replaced so I am assuming the window frame has been off of the door at some point. The glass in the vent frame looks correct and seated fine. I do not think the vent glass has ever been removed. I am focusing on the upper hinge and am doing some measurements on the aluminum frame. I was just out looking at it again and noticed the small rivets that attach the upper hinge look kind of loose. That would certainly contribute to the issue. Right now I am thinking I may remove everything and reinstall per the recommendations on the site.
  5. All, I am continuing to sort my 74Tii. The good news is that the problems are getting smaller. The next issue is with the drivers side vent window. The window is too tight at the top trailing edge (looks OK at the bottom of the trailing edge) and will not completely shut without coaxing from the outside by pulling at the small upper hinge and pushing it in. The result is that when you go to open it, it is "trapped" in the frame and the regulator cannot open it without first unseating it manually. I am assuming the entire frame has been out of the car previously for restoration efforts. The main window is aligned and works smoothly. Compared to the passenger side, the frame looks identical and unmolested in any way. Is there a way to adjust the position of the vent in its frame? Nothing looks obvious. I have perused the tech forums and searched the forums without luck. Thanks in advance for any insights.
  6. Sir, Do you still have these by chance?
  7. I decided to follow up with the conclusion of this thread. Unfortunately, the car I purchased had a bad head gasket. While going that far, I decided to do a rebuild (thankfully). What was found was shocking and disappointing. The Metric Mechanics motor had stock pistons and rings installed on a re-bored block. The piston skirts were rubbing and the head gasket was obviously the wrong size. Simply unacceptable. Jim and Deborah at German Motorworks in Orlando were very professional (and gentle breaking the bad news) throughout the whole nightmare. They did excellent work. The job is now complete and she is running like a Tii should. I hope to get many happy miles from here on out.
  8. Gents, I will joint this thread because I am not super happy with the travel of my pedal. It is nothing like in the videos of this string but it travels at least an inch or two before I get brakes. I just had it in to a 2002 specialist for engine work. The mechanic drove it for a few days and never mentioned that the brakes felt questionable. How much travel is nominal when everything is adjusted correctly? A rebuild kit was in the box of parts I got with the car so it makes wonder...
  9. This is my jack. I am pretty sure it is not for a 2002 since it just doesn't fit right.
  10. Mine is definitely different from yours. The jack leg interface with the car is certainly different. The PO gave it to me with a bunch of other parts so I am not sure of its pedigree.
  11. Message received on usability. I really don't plan on using it. I have a couple scissor jacks I can bring along. That said, I have the jack and want to mount it just for looks. Simple right? Apparently not. Please look at the pictures I attached. Are their different length jacks out there? I am following the pictures from Mark92131 and John76. Mine does not seem to fit in the car properly. The lug wrench is fine but the jack does not sit properly in the bracket. What am I missing here? If the head of the jack is on the little shelf on the wheel well then the jack cannot sit flush with the holder bracket. I cannot get my jack to sit like either of the pictures provided.
  12. I am looking for the small metal bracket that holds down the jack and the metal plate for the spare tire (see picture). I could just fab my own replacements but would prefer the actual parts. Thanks.Jack assembly parts copy.pdfJack assembly parts copy.pdf
  13. Thanks to all. Mine is a square light '74. I am obviously missing the bracket and wing nut for both the jack and tire. I will fashion something or try to purchase one someplace.
  14. I'm embarrassed to ask but his should be an easy one. I am looking for a good picture of how the jack and lug wrench mount in the trunk. I have a new jack and wrench but it is not obvious to me how they mount and what other bits & pieces I may be missing. My Haynes manual does not show it and a search of the discussions came up empty. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Thanks. Will do. I have already replaced the filler neck, both gaskets and run the vent out to beneath the car. The only other possibility is that the tank has a seam seal leak someplace but I see no evidence of that and the tank is super clean inside and out.
  16. I went ahead and replaced the bolts with stainless M5's and stainless M5 fender washers. Used generous amounts of Hylomar Blue on both sides of the gasket and under each washer before tightening. Picture is the finished product. My fingers are crossed for the morning smell check. Can't imagine anything else that could be done. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
  17. This is a status. I have pulled the feed and pounded the plate flat at all hole locations (see picture). Looks good so far. I am curious about the 8 bolts I have. They look like M5's with washers attached to them. The integral washers have a slight "conical" shape to them. They look too thick to have been bent into that shape and each one looks consistent. Is that stock and normal? Also, I am thinking a thin Nylon or PTFE washer under each one would be an another seal in addition to the Hylomar. What do you think oh wise and all knowing forum?
  18. Excellent suggestions. I keep suspecting the suction device since it is the biggest flange with lots of fasteners. I will concentrate on that with a soap test. Flattening those holes is also doable. It does not have countersunk screws currently but who knows what was done previously. I have never used hylomar but I will get some. Thanks to all and I will report back on findings.
  19. Thanks. I was just fishing for something typical of the 2002 like the flange at the right fender panel or something. I have replace the filler boot with a new one so that is not the issue. I don't have a smoke tester and am trying not to spend $100 for a shop to do one so I think I will try soapy water and light pressure on the tank from the filler port. Any other detection ideas are welcome. Do they make a spray that changes color when in contact with gasoline?
  20. I am hoping to get the experts to give me some ideas of what to check next. I have a 74 tii and am getting fuel smell in the trunk. Trunk only. Not in the engine bay or cabin (all lines have been rerouted under the car). At this point I have replaced both gaskets and the filler boot. Also checked all the the fuel lines in the trunk and they are new and well clamped. The vent line that normally goes to the canister is vented to the atmosphere via a hose through the body hole near the taillight. The tank was replaced by the PO and looks clean inside and out. I see no evidence of weeping fuel anywhere around the seams. It smells whether I use the car or not. What the heck is left? Can anyone suggest a garage mechanic way to check for leaks in the system? I am a fairly competent mechanical guy and this is driving me crazy.
  21. I might be interested in this if it is still available. Got a guess at shipping?
  22. Thanks. I already purchased them from another member.
  23. Looking for a return pipe in good shape. BMW wants crazy money for a new one. Thanks.
  24. Wanted - Looking for the two injector pump belt covers for a 74 tii. Don't have to be perfect but just in decent shape for decent price. Thanks.
