Installed a new catch can.  I used my home-made coffee mug catch can for years while tuning the carb/adjusting timing to keep the fumes out of my nose. Found a small can at Walmart ($22) and mounted it on the firewall. Still able to see the flywheel hole, unscrew the can to check for contents, and easily remove the stock air cleaner without unfastening a hose clamp.

After a 75-mile high-speed drive yesterday, I was anxious to see how much oil/goop collected in the can. Disappointed to find only a few drops of water condensation. Yes, the new catch can has an internal baffle, coalescing filter, and I threw in a small ball of stainless-steel pot scrubber just for good measure.

Intake on can is connected to valve cover with a 19/32" (15mm) PCV hose. Output connected to stock air cleaner with a vacuum line connected to the center manifold vacuum spigot below the car The vacuum line is also "T"s to the charcoal canister.

Got a link to the can?  I'm currently using an e30 power steering reservoir...

Jesus Christ is this the understatement of the decade.

You guys really need to see his wiring harness. The car is beautiful, as is the wiring harness.  Saying he added some wiring is like saying my car has a couple parts from a newer car...

Hi Cal.  :)  Hope the new digs are treating you well.

  3. The head is stripped or the threads are stripped?

One way is small pain in the ass, the other way is really pretty easy. (Yes, I have a LOT of tools.  Tool enthusiast is I think how it was described...)

I would weld anything to the head and turn that- that's the small pain in the can.  If the threads are stripped, just find any way to apply upward pressure on the screw and turn it- it'll back out. Like jamming something plastic between the track and the body, then turn it.

Drilling and using an easy out would probably work very well, I'm just lazy.  And have a welder.

Damn, didn't even think of this- cut the roof off and replace with non-sunroof lid.  Problem solved!  :P  Oooooo, new carbon lid. Paging @danco_

  4. I'll bite.

Does that Voile strap just go through the bracket or does it go through a bigger piece of the body?  I'd say that if the strap just goes through the bracket, I'd put another screw in it.  If the strap is going through the body, too?  It's probably fine.

And then thinking about the stiffness of the bracket, flexing, and eventually breaking, dropping the battery on the headlight.  Again, if that strap goes through the body might not be any concern at all.

To add to everything else, the details changed in production both by month and

year, and apparently by who was doing what.  The things were certainly made

on a line,  but they were also made by a company and a workforce that was

relatively new to the 'they're all the same' mentality.

To that end, there was a lot of variation in small details- and the bodywork

wasn't all that fantastic- for example, the blend of the upper C- pillar into the

roof's usually detectable (by feel) on an original- paint car.  Me, I make it look nice.  F that 'original mistake' thing!

If you're going to use the car, I'd err on the side of putting more protection on the nose

(up to the bumper, for sure) and make sure the rockers are done in their entirety.

Also, there are non- original creature comforts that make the car a LOT nicer to

live with- modern A/C being one, delay wipers being another- that are worth doing now.

Nope, it's not original, but so whut?  Cars are meant to be used.   Otherwise, they'd come pre- framed.

Likewise, give the shop the rear trim rings for the taillights- those often didn't fit perfectly from new, and

getting hit never helped much.  Then the shop can fit to them, and make them look right.  They'll

be doing work there anyhow.  Front turns, too.  Grilles.  Clean them up, label them OBVIOUSLY

(like, write your name on the back side with a sharpie on the metal) and give them to your 'front counter'

person along with a list.  Get them to initial one copy, and leave the other with them.  And go through

the parts with them.  Then leave them in a big plastic Home Depot box with your name on the

outside in the back seat area of the car.  Tape a copy to the flap, if you're feeling frisky.

That way the people who work on it will have them, and you'll have some chance of getting

them back, or getting the shop to replace them without any hard feelings.  Things happen.

    there's certainly tons more...

    t

Having bought a car that sat at the body shop for an extended period, I would suggest doing some or all of the above.  I mean, they lost the hood and trunk, let alone ALL the other trim.

  7. I bored it to 92?, made effective CR 9.5 (at 5k ft elevation), +1mm valves, gasket match, crap like that. Bull nosed the crank, aluminum flywheel, etc. Ran like shit on the stock KF. Would not recommend.  Also tried the metal TEP intake tubes to replace the stock plastic ones. Did not run nearly as well as with the stock plastic tubes.

From what I've seen here, and what I've tried personally, using super fresh, all stock parts/ measurements is the way to go.

Here's my onboard unfortunately a bit overexposed.
With an empty trunk and a bit of practice (I've been the first time on the Nordschleife) a 9:00 BTG should be possible

Passenger window winder removed to add lightness.  Nice.

And I think a sub 9:00 lap would be very attainable with becoming familiar with the track.  Looked like a lot of fun.

    after the tune we:

    eliminated EPS

    eliminated EVAP

eliminated Catalytic converter O2 narrowband measurement

eliminated VTEC temp 7200 shut off

    raised idle to 1050

widened the torque curve 4200-6500 rpm

    tuned to 9k safely

Added Wideband tuning (Honda uses 2 narrow band)

so now it’s noticeably happier diving

Ah, so tune-able.  :)  And now, if for some reason, my s14 melts, you've got a tune file for the f20c! Nice.

Actually, I'd love to see that file anyway; never know what you can learn. We should get @jimk to look at it as well...

  10. Drove it, put another 10 gallons of non ethanol in it, hauled a bunch of crap in it, put the paddle board on it and took the dog to the res...

(I decided to delete this part as it served no purpose and I was just being a dick. It wasn't anything that bad and it wasn't pointed at anyone, I was just being a dick in general, and with the world being tough enough as it is, I don't need to be adding, especially not here. Sorry to everyone that read it. And for some reason I can't delete the bit that pings Jim...)

    @jimk

@M3This keep posting pics for what appears to be an awesome 2.5 s14 build.  :)

And per Barney's 16 months of waiting, I think my car is just fine staying looking like it is. Dude, that would suck.

Edit to add... This is (was) a bit sharp. Sorry about that. Been having a rough time. I'll try to be better.

I put the back seat back in (34 lbs.), to make it seem less like driving a shell around.  I also put the Thule racks back in the trunk (14 lbs.).  I am going to carry less junk around, to keep the weight down.  The added lightness feels good.

    Hi Tom.

I use a Yakima rack, so round bars.  I was looking a while ago, and might have found carbon tubes that look like they'll fit perfect and take most of that weight off the roof.  (Yes, I have 2 bike racks and a paddle board rack on my roof, along with the sunroof, and use it all all the time- most of the bikes are plastic anyway. It's completely ridiculous to spend that much money to save 10 pounds when there's so much extra up there. Whatever; carbon.) :)

Sorry, haven't been around in a bit, but Wholely Fuck! That's awesome.  I just got to this point on the thread, hopefully there's more.  F20c? Could you imagine? Gawd, my wife would shoot me. For real this time. That's beautiful.

That's freakin' fancy.  I'll get a pic of mine tomorrow, but between the cut for the 265 and the hanging pedals, it's not much to look at...  Esty's carpet kit ain't quite made to hide all these sins.
