  1. Try a thread chaser/cleaner rather than a cutting tap. Check amazon. I got Lang set.
  2. Check for vacuum leaks. Have you checked timing? Dwell?
  3. The last thing I saw was #1 plug was soaked in gas, and you hadn't put in your new plugs.
  4. 90 deg doesn't sound right either. Anyway, if you tell Carl #2,3 and 4 are working fine, but #1 doesn't fire, the first thing he will do is put a fresh plug in #1 wire and test against the head.
  5. Apparently my mind didn't get wrapped far enough around. It didn't sound right but I couldn't think of why. Always used #1. So how did OP check timing?
  6. I was trying to get my head wrapped around using #2 to set timing. I guess it would work. However, this does not sound like a timing problem The most bizarre question for me is why OP hasnt popped a known plug into #1. If 2 ,3, and 4 work, the obvious things to check are the #1 wire (EVEN IF NEW), and the plug.
  7. Timing doesn't normally suddenly change by itself.
  8. Swap #1 and 2 plugs. See if problem moves. Same with wire. Or just test with plug pulled. But how did you time it if #1 is dead?
  9. Good thing to check if charging warning light is on though.
  10. Allen key works. Stepped feelers are better for checking your work. If you have correctly set the gaps, then on to other areas. The stethoscope to see if noise is lower in the block.
  11. Intake .006, exhaust .008. Spec is in that range. Easy with stepped feelers. Do you have springy tool to hold eccentric?
  12. I would revisit the valve adjustment to start. I use a go-no go set of stepped feelers. Get get a mechanics stethoscope to listen at lower block. Check the three end plugs are in the rocker shafts
  13. OK, but diluted 20:1 for E5, that's miniscule. Or did I miss something?
  14. Also, ethanol fuel doesn't store well.
  15. The less ethanol, the better
  16. Sounds good. Keep in mind you need TDC for the firing stroke, and the notch needs to be in the same position relative to the engine.
  17. How did you determine where to drop in the dizzy?
  18. 8mm replaces 7.5mm OK? Use clamps?
  19. Or a part number for Contitech
  20. Tthanks. I was hoping to find a cheaper substitute available in Canada. Dealer wants 40CDN.
  21. Has anyone found a suitable substitute for the factory braided hose? The application in question is using silicone fluid, but suggestions for regular fluid would be useful.
