  1. I've never hear of such a thing??? Sounds like crazy talk to me...
  2. MuHAHAHA! That is exactly what I'm going for!!! If I need to turn I'll just turn the wheel and step on the gas!!
  3. Hey Andy. No I haven't moved the shop yet, but should be moved by the end of July. I was just running some errands this morning and just got here to the shop. I think I saw you driving your new gulf around the other day. You were over on Tiger... My shop is near the corner of Moberly and Central. It's the little blue building with yellow trim that used to be an upohlstery shop.
  4. Those are some great pics Nick!!! I think I would opt for cutting the firewall instead of the core support though... It looks like there is still room for the shifter to come back a bit more and that would bring some more of the engine weight back towards center. I actually have a 325i shell, but it is in pretty bad shape plus it's a vert... The thought crossed my mind to just build the M5, but I hear it's in pretty bad shape too... We'll see, but I am definately leaning towards the 02! It's possible that the owner is just looking at the build date on the car and thinks it is an '87, but it is really an '88. I would be happy with an M88 too though!!!
  5. Yeah I kind of agree, but the sight of that beast under the hood and the fact that it is available is what's turning me on to it... Plus, I think it will always have more power potential than either of those two!
  6. I have a couple of 5 speeds, several of the heads you specify and several 2.0 M10 cranks that I'd let go. You can email me at L28240z@yahoo.com if you are still looking. Thanks! Richard
  7. Well, Shupe and I are working on aquiring an '87 M5, of which the powerplant and drivetrain should surely find itself stuffed under the hood of the '69... If this works out, I will likely be parting out the M10 that I have now. It is a fairly well built street motor. It has piano tops, ported head, 292 Shrick, Stahl headers, 45 webers, brand new timing chain and tensioner from Blunt, Pertronix in a no vacuum advance dizzy etc... It also has nice 5speed behind it with a bracket for mounting it in an 02. If anyone is interested in these parts or anything else from the M10 please let me know. I am a little new to pricing some of these so fair offers would help. Now on to the S38. What do you guys think on the swap and where would you start? I don't have the engine yet, so I haven't made any initial assessment of what I think on how to go about it, so any input would be great. Thanks!
  8. Yeah, the shutter... I've had run in with those before and it always turned out that that darn thing was a liitle losse ans causing all sorts of trouble! Otherwise, have you checked your valve clearances? That could also make a bit of a difference. Check to be sure you don't have any vacuum leaks either. With the engine running, spray some carb cleaner all around the intake and see if the idle changes any. If so, you've got some unmetered air entering the mix...
  9. Have you tried pulling the lines off the tank and off the carb and blowing compressed air through them? Blow from the carb back to the tank. There could be debris that is allowing a little fuel through, but not enough... Replacing them is also a good option! Good luck!
  10. Does your dizzy have a little "fan" in it underneath the rotor? If so, it is probably loose and giving the crane module bad signals...
  11. Yeah, I should be around... Just give me a call. -Richard
  12. Yeah... It was a good time! Now it's your turn with that new XR1200!!!
  13. Here's a short video of my '69 showing the Datsun guys how its done!!! I took it to the Branson Z fest and waited until the parking lot cleared a little then gave 'er hell!!
  14. Well, keep in mind that your block may need to be honed again to match whatever pistons you come up with... Hopefully they didn't cut the cylinders too much. You should always wait to bore and hone a block until you have the pistons you are going to use as there can be inconsitancies even just between the four pistons. They should be cut and honed for each piston individually and the pistons marked accordingly. If you can't find anything stock that will work for you the I think your best bet would be the JE set as you can have them made in whatever dimension you request... Good luck!
  15. I thought one of the eccentrics had gotten loose at first too, but they were all fine... I did find the issue on mine today though. I believe that the timing chain has just stretched way too much for the tensioner to handle. It gets tight, but when running the chain is forcing the guide all the way over to the pin stop and then it slaps back and cases the loud "tick". I tried shimming the spring a little to make it a bit stiffer, but the chain is at such a hard angle against the guide that it didn't help... I ordered a new chain and tensioner today and they should be here by Monday. I'll post back up after I replace them and let you guys know what happens. Thanks! Richard
  16. Did you ever figure this out??? Mine is making the exact same noise. It started faint and I thought it was just the valves out of adjustment too, but it is getting louder everytime I run it... I adjusted the valves down to 6 from the 8 they were at and it didn't do any good either. I was leaning toward the cam chain tensioner, but it looks fine and after hearing that your is new and making the same noise I'm wondering if that is the issue anyway. I put a stethescope to it and the noise is definately coming from up front, but I haven't been able to nail it down yet. I haven't put too much time into it yet though... Let us know what you came up with. Thanks! Richard
  17. Check your valvle adjustment too. If the eccentrics are waaay out you might could get #'s like those. However, a blown head gasket is a likely culprit too...
  18. Will the door open at all if you pull the lever? If so, you will need to open the door and pull the door panel off. You can then check the linkages and make sure they are in the correct location and in proper adjustment... Good Luck!
  19. Any hardware stores close by? Probably wouldn't be a problem for a while, but why risk it???
  20. Nice Andy! I wish I had been able to make it to Eureka on Saturday to be able to meet you and others... Stop by my shop sometime in Bentonville if your ever over on Moberly Ln.
  21. Yeah, it's really weird. I recently got under my '69 and found that the glass pack that is in the middle of the exhaust system had cracked almost all the way around! It was a really odd place of it to crack too. Luckily I caught it before it broke off while running down the highway or something! I think this one though is due to not having a mount near the middle of the system. The stress was just too much...
  22. Sorry I missed you guys... I did finally get it going, but not in time for a drive. It was good meeting a few of you yesterday though. I only wish I had been able to come and hang out some today... I'll be sure and make it next year!
  23. Yeah, I encountered the same thing when I swapped mine due to it being stuck in 2nd gear... the new tranny was the longer 3 piece and it had a different output flange on it.
  24. Yeah, I gave that a shot. Didn't work out to well though... I should be getting the other carb body in on Thursday so I'll be there! I think I can switch the guts over in a bout an hour... We'll see!
