    well its been like forever but... i finally got back in the garage to solve my de-smog wiring problem (had the solenoid connected on the wrong terminal & poor connection on the battery) and re-explore my cooling problem. For the cooling mystery I did a radiator pressure test. Gave it 20 lbs of pressure with plenty of water in the radiator. Result... no leaks, not even the water pump or heater valve. I had some minor leakage at the upper radiator hose but it just needed to be tightened down a little (I don't think it would of caused the car to get low on fluid and overheat). So where to now??? I am guessing swap the the thermostat and see if it overheats again? Thoughts??

    Anyone want a used one piece tan carpet? I took it out of my car to do some body work. It came out in one piece without any major tears. I gave it a quick wash at the car wash so its clean, but sunfaded... Maybe its worth hitting it with some die??? Anyway, if anyone wants I can sell it for the cost of shipping and handling. Otherwise I'll toss it. -rd

    no offense taken, I agree with most of that. The lower edge that sticks out actually looks pretty good when not over emphasized by the camera angle (but this one needs to be finished on the sides). I like the idea of trim rings that would really pop & have been thinking about a way to come up with that, for now I went ahead and rounded off the edges a bit which definitely helped. This demo was done with a oil rub finish, but you're right, its such a small piece of wood it needs to pop a bit more. I think we will try more of a stain and finish that can match both the light and dark Nardi wheels.... One other issue I've noticed since posting is that with my lights on you can see a little light around the gauge rings hmmm... thinking about a work around there as well.

    Hey folks... so I've never really cared much for the fake-wood-plastic dash face of the 75-76's and decided I wanted to do something a little special. My brother is an wood worker and makes a lot of danish modern furniture. So I gave him specs to create a real wood dash face. It turned out pretty nice... If any of you are interested, & we had enough orders, we could probably do a batch for around $70 each. The panels are made with an oil rubbed, redwood veneer, with a rabbit cut out on the back to install glass. You need to remove your existing plastic panel and glass gauge covers. The new panel attaches to the plastic face underneath with thin velcro. shoot me an email here if you'd like to have us make you one.

    i have a 76 which I just desmoged however I must of done something incorrect plugging the wiring back as now it wont start. I am a totally newbie to electrical so any help would be appreciated?

Will report back next weekend after another saturday on the car. >crank the motor over with a like-new battery got it - no battery when i bought it so it has a new one now. >DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT HOLDS COOLENT PRESSURE, drove once at night after purchase - heat built up after 5 minutes, pulled over let it cool down added water, drove another 5 minutes back to garage, it heated up again but not as fast. >DOES NOT LEAK GAS, so far seems good there, no smells. >WHEELS ARE FREE TO TURN, yep all good there. >BRAKES SET ON AND RELEASE FULLY. seem solid. >INSPECT FOR ANY LOOSE GROUND/POSITIVE WIRING doing this now.

    hey folks. ive got some newbie questions (ive had my 76 2002 for years but just now learning to work on it). i inherited a second 76 which im learning to restore and ive only driven it for like 10 minutes but it heated up on me really fast. prior to turning the car over i added fluids especially coolant which seemed to be nonexistent and noticed that some of the new fluid hit the floor on start up which makes me wonder if the water pump is leaking. The car was sitting in a garage for many years before I purchased it. What are the best ways to diagnose an overheating problem? Also regardless of pump since the car sat so long i should probably drain the block and radiator yes? Where are the drain plugs located to do so and it what order should you attempt to make less mess? Lastly... I spent some time taking off a lot of smog stuff yesterday since I'm in washington and its not necessary (I swear it took like a hundred pounds off the car - is going to use less gas - and is now probably better for the environment). Is it advised to hold on to the pump and other items just in case the laws change - or do you think us washingtonians are safe to offer up our smog goods to help out california?

    actually I just checked and I do have some left over. See photos... most of the beltline trim is dinged but better nothing and it might be repairable with some patience. One very good rear piece, some roundie trim for the tail lights. The rest is interior... (oil pressure gauge, glove box, rear view mirror, side mirror, cotton car cover, fuse bay, steering console trim, lap belts) rd

    Hey Folks I bought a beautiful dark blue carpet from Esty a while back for my car then ended up buying a completely different car with a tan interior.     this is for a daily drive to slow down rust (mostly surface) that is hard to reach like the inside of a door... i notice the marine industry makes a lot of stuff for boats. Any advice on which product to use??

    yeah i was always curious why late models had such floor pan problems. the rust on this one is totally surface but my other 76 is shot. But the sealer theory makes sense. I will definitely take the advice so far and strip the floor to make sure this one lasts. I saw a good trick about dry ice to get that stuff off.
