  2. Great presentation and beautiful car, good luck with the sale.
  3. There is a very nice 1971 Colorado Orange on eBay right now.. it appears from the online photos to be well "sorted". (I'm not affiliated with the seller and have not seen the car in person). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-BMW-2002-Base-Sedan-2-Door-2-0L-/190732500295?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2c688afd47
  4. I see the gauge cluster (instruments) have wood surrounds--- are they real or vinyl in that era? I ask because obviously the 2002s went to black clusters and then back to wood (fake wood) in 74 for the end of the run. Just wondering if there was really real wood on the cluster in 67-68.
  5. Not mine, not affiliated, just observing: Wondering if anyone saw the speedometer/odometer photo on this eBay listing by user "2000m5" in California? (He's a member of several forums, perhaps this one, and sells quite a few vehicles on eBay.) This is for a 74 2002tii (Nachtblau metallic, 2782329) I don't know if the speedometer photo is awesome or terrifying. It's likely both! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rare-Collectible-Classic-1974-BMW-2002tii-99-9-Rust-Free-14-Panasports-More-/200817595784?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2ec1a95588#ht_900wt_1170
  6. Sorry, but I just bought this car yesterday and drove it up here to Seattle. Lucky dog, it looks like you got an awesome car with a solid build.
  7. Good morning, Similar story here--- I looked with some seriousness back in 2007 (and much more seriously this year). You're absolutely right, what was a very nice car in 2007 for $8,000 is now a $12,500 car (or, if it's on eBay, the BIN is $18,000 or 19,900.) Can I ask where you're looking to see if there are any places that I missed? -- Here -- obviously -- likely the best place to find a 2002 -- eBay; cars.com; autotrader classics -- crazedlist -- has been shut down; I haven't found a replacement I like -- 2002ad in California -- some quite nice cars are on their page but recent seller-feedback on these boards hasn't been 100% positive unfortunately. -- Beyond 2 in Burlingame, Cal. -- not many recent listings -- bimmerforums -- very few 2002s come up here -- e9coupe; s14.net -- hardly any 2002s come up here -- Roadfly -- seems to have many dead listings Just checking. I'm in what seems like an endless & unavailing search for the right 2002 or E28. (For me, the ideal case is a '73tii and an '88 535is, but I'm not too specific.) I'm at the point where I'm thinking of calling up independent BMW mechanics in various BMW havens around the country and leaving my name and number for them to pin on the wall. I don't know if that would help, or if they'd just laugh and hang up on me. There were a couple of great cars that have come available the last couple of months that I missed out on. Have you found anything close to your liking? Or is your taste really specific ("I gotta have a '69 golf-yellow automatic with black & tan two-tone uncut door cards and the original California blue plate.")? I'm not that bad, but I do have my preferences ;-)
  8. That's correct, If it was a California car it would have received a Blue plate. Note the seller says it's a "black plate car", but maybe he doesn't know what that term means. To me, "black plate car" means "a continuously registered California car that still has its original '63-'69 black license plate on current registration with the California DMV, or has a PNO declaration to the DMV that would allow the license plate to be reactivated. It comes with multiple registration certificates in the glove-box so there is proof to the DMV that the new owner can register the car with the same plate." It does NOT mean "a Car that used to have a black plate", or "a Car that comes with a black plate as a souvenir". That's my definition, others' may vary. My personal definition of "black plate car" does NOT include a "YOM registration", if and when California allows that. "Black plate car" is not really a legally-defined term, and I could see a (shady) used-car dealer saying a car is a "black plate car" that doesn't meet my definition above. Or a well-intentioned seller trying to express that a car used to have a black-plate because happens to be MY1969 or older. Neither counts for me.
  9. The "Neue Klasse" is such a beautiful type. I've always loved the "fuel fill door" on those. Looking at the pics again I'm shocked the 4-door wasn't more popular... Nice looking car--- more pics would be great. Good luck with the sale.
  10. Take a good look at one of the pre-purchase checklists for 2002 online (here on the FAQ and elsewhere.) Here is one of the better ones that I have found. Suggest printing it out and bring it with you: http://laudeman.com/bmw_checklist.html If you can swing it, a PPI (pre purchase inspection) by a mechanic who knows BMWs is a good idea. Most of the better independent BMW shops around the country will do PPIs for a reasonable fee (I haven't priced it lately but I'd say around $150). Well worth the investment. If you are thinking about buying a car over the internet, sight unseen, a PPI by a local mechanic (in the area the car is, obviously), that you pay for, is your best and only insurance. Finally, if you are looking for your first 2002, definitely get a book. The Mike Macartney book "02 Restoration" has been well thought of. It goes into the rust areas (including replacement of the sheet metal) in tons of detail. You can find it at many booksellers online... even at $20 it is a drop in the bucket compared to a $1500 car (heck, if you buy a perfect $12,000 car you might not need it, but on a $1,500 car with needs, you're much more likely to.) 11. Did this car sell? Congrats on a beautiful vehicle and very nice pictures. Kudos all around.
  12. Not mine, not affiliated-- just sharing the link. + Granatrot -- interesting color in apparently good shape -- can't tell if it was the factory original color o No pictures of undercarriage, not sure about the floorboard, rocker or dash-panel .. interesting find with a lot of work already invested--- Texas location may make rust repairable-- any other commentary? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-BMW-2002tii-/140821831328?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item20c9a29ea0
  13. Wow-- Dang, that red car (is that an Alfa?) spinning out almost took out the driver with the camera. You really have to be willing to risk totalling your car to race bumper-to-bumper like that .. I'm surprised there wasn't more damage! Some great cars there, BMW CoupeSports.. etc.. I'm surprised that Porsche couldn't seem to get around the 2002s at the 3:00 mark.. what's wrong with that car?! Or are the 2002s just that awesome.
