  1. I'd still replace the pump- and if the plug there is that bad, there may be other corrosion issues inside...

one good reason to change your coolant every 2 years, right there.

Both observations are helpful ;-) I love "+2" commentary :-D

Decided its time to give attention to the touring after purchase two years ago, I'd simply been driving it occasionally. I use a proprietary (that means my personal secret ;-) )coolant flush which is very good at scrubbing buildup of dis-similar metals away, and has the added plus of revealing more serious corroded "weak spots." FINDing those weak spots during servicing is a good preventive strategy, and helps one avoid road-going surprises. The weak "freezeplug" appeared after running the cleaner through, I had to scrample a bit to get neutralizer into the system, but bottom line (after that unusual failure) all is now good. Better to have that "failure" happen in my yard and get fixed .... then I can enjoy no-worries cross-country trips somewhere like the San Jacintos in 100 degree temperatures (see snapshot below)

Reason for my post was I'd never seen that plug on the side of a water pump EVER fail...its likely that the car (before being scraped and painted in yurrop and then shipped to the states for sale) likely sat for a looong time, hence the weakening of that plug. And it seems the pump s/b repaired and kept for re-use as a spare, but in the meantime of COURSE I'll use the on-order replacement pump to put the lil cruiser back on the road.

  2. SO I ordered a replacement water pump thinking the water dump was a bad gland seal on the Touring. Lo and behold, when I removed the old one the bearing and seal are fine, but the freeze plug on the side of the pump had a hole corroded through! Anyone know where to source one of these plugs, or have experience replacing them? (s/b simple enough) Thanks in advance for your replies!

  3. I've seen them before here in Uruguay, apparently a small batch of really early 520's (E12 5-series) came here with the M10 engine carbed like this...

In the UK the four-cylinder 520 was fitted with twin Stromberg 175CDET carburetors, i believe these are them...

    Hope it helps,

    Cheers!

    correct! (enough)

  4. Oddly, the only claims about molded flares come from sellers, and not your casual "I've had this old car for a while" types. Dealers. And for as long as I can remember I had NEVER seen one with molded flares until the advent of world-wide marketing via the net. And that included cars from Japan. Anyone even ask BMW AG?

  5. Anyone know a source of NEW late model filler necks (vs NOS)? The NOS neck I bought from Max last year is already cracking.

Like OP, I, too, am doing a fume elimination project. Bryant

I really doubt Maximillian has kept these on a shelf. They get them from "the usual sources" just like many other suppliers. While "the usual sources" may not always include BMW NA, recently-ordered parts from BMW may not be any better, newer, or "fresher" Installation of one of these with zero tension (perfect alignment) is the best insurance from stress cracks, but nothing can make up for a cheap sludge-composite black material part made in some third world nation (which I'd bet is where ALL suppliers get these now, including BMW)

  6. There are no limitations. If password works in one form, I should work with the other. Wha the error that you get?

it was the same sql jibberish some other fellow posted about, I read of it and eliminated all use of the following character : '

    and was able to post.

As far as the login, it wasn't saying "welcome dp" but after getting a new password assigned that went away too

not as bad as the unrest in Egypt....wait, Bahrain.....wait, WisCONsin?!??!

  7. Got this car as a (mostly suspension) donor for the ex-Michel Potheau 72 Tii, and weather has cleared enough to break it. If you need a no-snorkel Tii nose for your 74, please e-mail me and help get me to pull the trigger and get this rollerpuppy donor outta here!

  9. Hi Giovanni,

Is this head still available? I'd like to buy it for a friend's 74 rebuild (very cool original Turkis car) Do you know what cam is in it and other parts have been replaced and what work was done to it? Also, does it have 44 or 46mm intake valves?

And I guess I am curious, why are you selling it?

Sent you an e-mail as well, and I sure hope to hear back from you!

Oh and my friends head gasket just broke this weekend and we were 200 miles away from home! Dont feel so bad haha.
