  1. While they look serviceable consider this. If your head gets cut (surfaced) and you use a new timing chain, you MAY need to adjust the cam timing to get back to stock. An adjustable gear is not too expensive. They are available for both single and double row. Remember if you choose to change the top gear, also change the bottom one on the crank. A new chain guide is not too expensive either.

    Good luck,

  2. So your current engine has flat tops and an E12. And you have piano tops and a 121 as spares. The 121 will go on your current engine without modification. And the piano tops will work with the E12 without modification. It will be a lot of work to make the piano tops work with the 121. E12 flows better anyway, but the 121 will make more power (if used with the correct high compression pistons).

    Good luck,

  3. I had BAR do a claim against a repair shop that did some work on a VW Rabbit engine many years ago. It took a long time (close to a year) and the shop did not admit any wrong doing. What I had done was a valve job including new valve guides and valve stem seals. Once the head was put back on the engine and the engine run it burned oil at the rate of a quart per 1000 miles. After doing some research I discovered that it was improperly installed valve stem seals. I had the problem fixed by another shop and went after the original shop through BAR. In the end BAR got me a partial refund but the shop never admitted anything. They did however get a black mark on their record and ultimately went out of business.

The BAR people that I worked with were great. Be prepared to write a complete story of what you did with dates, etc.  This all took place in Northern CA (SF Bay Area).

    Good luck,

    Mike

Hi Mike - definitely sounds like you know what you are doing. If I have a factory alternator and two holes already cut out in the back rear deck for 6x9's what do you suggest for soundsystem? I was hoping to get two tweeters in front under the dash and something in the back deck. Any help would be great and any suggestions for products would also be wonderful - I'm fairly knew to this but definitely can appreciate some good sound.

With a factory alternator, a high power head unit and four speakers will suit your needs. You can get 'pods' to mount them on the kick panels or just use low profile ones and mount them in the kick panels. If they are too deep, you will need spacers. Put a pair of 6 x 9s in the rear if you like. You might be able to get some 5 1/4" round ones for the front. Just be sure to go into the store with a budget.

    Good luck,

    Mike

Can someone put a pertronix on the IE?

Reason I ask is because I think I have a worn out dizzy, which has pertronix on it now.

Figured I can keep the pertronix stuff as a spare in case the IE version goes bad on the road???

Pretty sure that if the points plate is the same in the IE distributor as your current then it would work. (there are two different versions of the Pertronix for the 2002 distributors).

Also consider sending your existing distributor to Advanced Distributors to have them rebuild it. Was the best $$ I ever spent. Made the engine run like new again. Just be sure to let them know the specs of your engine when you send it in, that way they can curve it to your engine.

Oh, yea, put some BP6ES spark plugs in it. The 5's are too cold.

    Good luck,

    Mike
