Hi Lane Hopefully they'll be another SD event. I would like to meet some local 02ers and perhaps get some advice

Rich, I thought about sending you an email (but only thought of it after the get together, Doh!, it was seeing William's Malaga that made me think of you)

BMW CCA autocross at the stadium, Sept. 18th.

We can go gawk in the AM from a conservative distance while discussing which parts are failing/require R&R.

The course opens for runs at 9:00.

Mandatory drivers' meeting at 8:30.

I'm thinking I can spare an hour and would like to see some of the action so probably I'll be there about 8:30 - 9:30, may show up a bit earlier.

Were I a current club member I would be competing in the oldest/worst looking heap division... worthy of second place perhaps, who knows?

Sounds good to me... what to do?

A meet-up at Cabrillo Nat'l Mnmt could be good local fun, except for the admission expense.

We could show up at my place and drink beer. I have space to accommodate five cars if we park on the lawn. Plenty of entertainment to be had scrubbing parts.

Casino Inn on Alpine Blvd in Alpine has a nice and inexpensive weekend breakfast also offering excellent Bloody Maries (not that I drink early/often) and has enough parking space for 3+ odd 02ers.

Has anyone driven through San Pasqual Valley around the Orfila Vineyards ? Theres some great mountain roads with major twisties and hills leading up to it from certain directions. Planning a route would take some time but I've made that drive a few times and it is quite a blast need to look out for bikers on tight corners.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
