i have a 1974 bmw 2002 and i want to put on bumpers from a 1600 most preferably but might compromise for early 2002 bumpers. i am doing it to give the car a sleeker look and eliminate all the black rubber so 1600 bumpers would be the best. do 1600 bumpers or early 2002 bumpers mount the same as the 74?

yes, check out this website, www.my2002tii.com it will show you the steps in converting to an old style bumper. i believe the front is easier to do than the rear, but you can check it out for yourself...

big bumper cars mount completely different...when you remove the late bumpers, you'll be left with a substantially large hole where the bumper shocks are attached to the frame...

contrarily, the early brackets only used a thin piece of steel attached to the cars frame...you'll have to weld the old bumper holes unless you can camouflage them..

the rear isn't difficult...just drill holes for the bracket from the outside body thru and into the inside and use long bolts, body washers and nuts to attach

then get early bumpers and matching brackets
