i'm sure the guys at redline would say that their stuff is just fine in that one.

you might be able to call them and confirm. i would guess MTL is just fine in about any BMW box...mike miller swears by that stuff in every trans-related tech talk article i've read.

SAE GL-4 75/80 GEAR OIL (NOT GL-5 OR "HYPOID") for hot climate

thanks JP. i ended up using the red line MTL in the tranny and mobil1 75/90 in the diff. damn, mobil1 75/90 is now 11 bucks a quart. seems like it was 6.99 last summer.

I posed a similar question to BMW gear guru Jim Blanton several years ago and his response was "Redline MTL for any manual gearbox."
