'75 o2 project (updated 3.29.07)

Hello all.

I have been having fun learning to weld with the Miller.

The first project was a rolling stand for the body so that I can move it around by myself.

Then I began with the trim holes and shaving the filler neck.

The next was removing the late model bumper mounts and boxing the frame back in.

Unfortunately I have that disease where I keep starting stuff and not really finishing anything. I have resolved to make task plans with rough durations so that I can grab a plan that fits the time window that I have and take each task all the way.

Anyway here are some new pix.

Why did you remove the nose? Are you replacing it or do you have other plans for it? Looks like care was put into removing and making two pieces from it anyway and some prep work is being done to the outer side. Making it easier to prep and paint? I'd think that would be just a huge PITA to remove and dissect it like that, but only you know what you have planned :). How is that going? It looks like you're making good progress. I've been thinking about emailing you and asking how its been going, but you got this updated.

I'm to the point of needing to decide what to do with my nose, to replace or not, but I cant decide yet until I try to fix it and see if I screw it up worse or not :). Removed my fenders, theyre rusty, so I have sort of decided to jump to the back of the car and cut my wheel arches or straighten out my rear panel. Maybe I'll get around to shaving my fusebox like you did before long.

Nice work as usual, keep it up.

Justin,

The nose had been installed with some of the poorest welds I had ever seen and there were some rust issues where the rad support and nose panel came together. I am going to be redesigning the rad support for the M20 so I decided to take the nose apart snd fix the rust. I will then re-attach the rad support after I strip and repaint it. Then I can do all of the custom work for the M20 more easily and I will be able to fix every surface (both sides) of the nose panel and then re-attach it.

Thanks for the props.

JB

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
