Allright, painted and assembled. Came out pretty nice. This picture was posted before in another thread.

Visited Ahvenisto Circuit, BMW Club Finnland track day. Plan was to snap some pictures on the pits but I guess I was too excited about getting to drive because I forgot to take any.  Here is couple of shots on track.

we need some in car video from track session!!!!

That would be kinda interesting for me too, but I'm not at all interested about fiddling with cameras and editing software and so on. Getting enough sitting with computer at work. I could probably loan a GoPro from work so maybe one day.

Right now I'm collecting motivation to check what bearings liked about suddenly loosing all oil pressure. Somehow cooler hose got loose from AN-fitting. No warning like leak before and the fittings are Speedflow that should be highest quality available. 😖

I inspected a rod bearing that was easiest one and it didn't look great. So I went further and ordered all the new bearings for lower end plus crank seals etc. It was a good decision because there was considerable wear in some of the rod bearings. Main bearings were all good and no damage in crank journals. Clearances were plastigauged following repair manual - all good. Also swapped a new damper. Should be good for a new season.

Only reason for the damage that could be figured out is that I had not tightened the AN-fittings tight enough. I think I was a bit worried to crack the aluminum "nut" and it didn't bite enough into the steel mesh of the hose. They held up fine for couple of years but eventually hose worked itself out.

Aerodynamics of a brick.

I've always said that you could use a brick as a nearly perfect wind tunnel model for an -02. Well, you can still try something. My main reasoning for the aero project was that I needed to add considerable amount of weight to fit back in Roadsport B-class with the Honda engine. Might as well try to do something useful with it. Floorboard is the lowest location to put the weight and something is probably gained as drag reduction. Other benefits are more in theory and/or imagination but looks racy - right?

Front splitter decreases lift by preventing air stuff under the car. Opening in the middle allows some air flow above floorboard to cool transmission, diff and exhaust.

Radiator flow is guided out through the hood vents.

Notice single blade wiper - manually stopped to vertical position to minimize drag :)

Front diffusers added to the splitter should create some downforce. They exit to the wheel well.

Openings added to the rear of the fenders to let air out of the well.

Canards should create some vortexes on the sides and help air getting out from wheel wells.

Side skirts separate the flow on the side and underside the car.

Diffuser at the back should make some downforce but probably it is in too steep angle to actually work. Differential and exhaust are on the way and the car also needs to be put on trailer. Underbody cooling air can exit above the diffuser.

Rear wing is just a straight profile from a helicopter blade with a gurney flap added. Not the most effective but helicopters do fly so it should do something. End plates are sized 200x200mm. That is the area defined in rules where the wing with all related parts must fit.

I thought they worked before but don't know. I uploaded them again, let's see. Now they are showing for me at least.

I studied a little more about diffusers and came to conclusion that my about 10 degree angle has a good chance to work pretty well. I made these little vortex generators before the leading edge that should improve the chances.

I watched some more aerodynamics videos from Youtube and made the last update of the series by adding vortex generators on roof. The model is carefully selected to fit the -02 =aliexpress cheapest with shipping.

What they say is that these should energise the boundary layer of air flow so it should follow the surface down the rear window better. Don't know but I guess they can't make much harm other than maybe look a bit ridiculous.

Track test was successful. The car feels good and it's not much slower regardless of the added weight to fill the class minimum.

I tried again to fix some of the pictures in April 2nd post. Still not sure if or how long they will work.

Well, on that track there is basically one corner fast enough for aero effects. It felt quite well planted there but part of it is of course the added weight. I'm not good enough driver notice marginal gains but I'm pretty sure it's not gone worse 😄
