Guibo rubbing shifter rod in 2nd

The newly-installed guibo (big 6-bolt variety) is rubbing the shifter rod (red box), but only in 2nd gear and only if you get on the gas. If I go easy, it's fine, but that's no fun.

Not sure what I'm supposed to do - it was close with the old flex disc, but it didn't hit. Raise the shifter platform? I could lower the trans (Getrag 262/5) a smidge by installing thin rubber isolation washers between the trans carrier (from e30 M3) and the body (I like that idea as it might reduce some vibration as well):

that came from the M3 cannabalized by the PO who did the swap. It's not particularly short -- a good bit longer throw than the short shifter in our E28.

Every new repair with this 02 is new chapter in a long mystery story.

I'm with you then, make the modification that you feel is the right one. Not sure I can offer any other options. I would assume you've checked all the drivetrain mounts, etc. Dropping the tranny a bit gets my vote.

You can bend the rod. Some BMW shifter come bent or notched from the factory. You could also use a B&M short shifter. It raises the ball/pivot by one inch by using an aluminum housing which slides in the shifter tower.

The B&M shifter is tempting but the trans is pretty well jammed up against the top of the tunnel. Not sure I'd have enough clearance. I'll try bending the rod first -- the price of that option is pretty attractive. Thanks Lee.
