Finally getting to replace the headliner on a 1973 BMW 2002. The old one came out years ago with few photos. What are metal clips on masonite behind sunroof for? I have a metal rod- is that part of the clips and what is purpose?

If this is what you're referring to... (the four clips beyond the dome light)  They're what holds the forward-most headliner bow (the metal rod I think you're referring to) in place.  See the posting about "sunroof dome light" a few postings above yours...
