Back Seat and seat back needed

Steve,

A bit more specificity might improve your outcome. Bavaria or ‘02? I’d guess that the E3 cars went through subtle changes, just as ‘02’s went through subtle changes over the course of their production. Thus, all rear seat frames are not the same, at least not on ‘02’s.

For ‘02’s, rear seat backs became slightly more sculpted in April 1971 (the Modell 71 upgrade) and again with the introduction of the square taillight. When retracting rear-seat seatbelts were introduced, I believe the outside rear corners of the seat bottom frame were modified to accommodate them. Square taillight seat bottoms also acquired the drop-down tab which accepts a bolt to secure the bottom cushion in place.

Admittedly, none of the changes to the ‘02 seat frames altered the basic overall size of the rear seat. So overall fit should not be an issue among ‘02 seats. But, for instance, installing a very early seat bottom frame might force you to give up retracting rear seat belts.

Best regards,

Steve C.
