A “Z” prefix before the radio’s serial number signifies that the radio was manufactured in 1968. The fourth digit of the model number signifies the model year of the radio. Although radios are manufactured in every year, new models were not introduced every year. Thus, for example, there might be 1968 model radios built in 1968, 1969, and 1970.

 

 

Below is a 1968 model Frankfurt US (763”8” 650) currently listed on eBay. It was also manufactured in 1968 (“Z”). Most ‘02’s, in 1968, probably received either an AM-only Blaupunkt Hamburg or an AM-FM Blaupunkt Frankfurt, dealer installed.
