Bosch AL-116x Alternator fitment.

For those successfully* running an AL-116X (or similar) alternator unit on an M10 with a plastic pulley fan, how far does the shaft nut on the alternator protrude?

    * successfully = no interference issue with the cooling fan

There are two helpful measurements: On a typical 2002 alternator (AL-89X), the distance from the front of the alternator housing to the front of the pulley is approximately 1.3” (and, on the 2002 units, the nut on the shaft does not protrude beyond the front of the pulley).

On the non-modified AL-116X alternators I checked, the distance from the alternator housing to the end of the shaft nut is 1.7 - 1.75” (0.4” forward of the pulley).

On the unit shown below (rebuilt by the “Better than Bosch” guy) with hardware adjusted and shaft shortened, the distance from the front of the housing to the nut (or shaft) is 1.5” (or, 0.2” forward of the pulley, as shown below). The point of the data collection is to discover if this amount of protrusion provides sufficient clearance for the fan.

Thanks in advance. -KB
