Datsun 510

Been a very long time since I’ve been on here.  Sold my 73 tii clone well over 10 years and got into Datsuns.  Had 521 truck for a few years then I got my 510.  It’s been fun but I think it’s time to get back into the 02’s.  Man prices sure have gone up since I last checked.  So far I’m thinking those 10k and under bargains are out of the question since I’m looking for something pretty much complete it doesn’t need to be show ready but rust free and reliable.  The search is offcically on right now.  Here are some pics of the Datsun that took up the last few years of my life.

Ka24de.  When I bought this thing I said I’m gonna leave it alone.  It was primered had one seat and missing everything but After I started with the sound system it just kept going,  lol.

Restomod is fine as long as it was taken care of and done with good taste. It’s the rust I’m avoiding.  I was gonna fly out to Connecticut to check out the silver one but the dude told me he had a serious inquiry coming by and would let me know.  I’d would prefer a west coaster though.

Those old Datsuns are pretty popular here on Maui, and man do they swap some crazy power in them. There is a dark blue in color like yours here that runs low 10’s, a true street sleeper.

Where in Maui are you?  That’s my favorite island!  Kihei and hana rule!!!!

I almost went sr turbo but the ka has enough low end torque to satisfy me.  I would probably crash with all that power.  I don’t race or drive like I used to.  Right now I’m struggling with the idea that might have to sell to make room for an 02. The wifes home gym is in the garage and I don’t think she’d me happy seeing another old car where her spin bike is.  I really don’t know what to do right now.  I have a lead on a potential 02 and have been talking to the guy for the week.  Just need to make up my mind,  argh!

I hear you.  I'm in the process of getting rid of several projects and just getting down to the one m2...  I need to work on the house and get some solar installed- cars keep getting in the way.

My buddy has a K24 with a supercharger on it from a wreck sitting in his shop, just sitting there...

Very cool!

A kid in my physics class happens to have a KA24de-t setup in his 510 (we instantly became friends obviously).  The thing is a rocket on wheels.

Are you in SoCal?

I’m in Santa Ana.  Turbos are fun.  I got  to drive a few and sr turbos too,  but I’m happy with it natural too.  There’s just enough kick in the low end to keep me happy.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
