I've seen that dent on many snouts.  Provides clearance for the injection lines.  Factory? Dealer? Previous owner? Hammer happy mechanic? Who knows.

The front snout/snorkel on '74 model tii airboxes had a perfect little factory dent for hose clearance/retention.  Here's a comparison of a '72-'73 (left) and a '74 (right).
