WTB: Automatic 2002 -- East Coast

I don't know who keeps tabs on these kind of things here at the FAQ but i would think it would be pretty rare to find an early roundie with an automatic gearbox. Someone here should know how many were delivered new with automatics the tricky part is that many were converted to manual. The later square tail light cars seem to be more plentiful in the automatic option.

Thanks.

Pros - what I'm looking for as far as model/tyranny

Cons - sahara would have been near the bottom of my list in colors. Salvage title even though it was little damage doesn't help.

What's wrong with Sahara? What's the reason for salvage title? Theft recovery would be OK in my book but I would be wary of collision damage. A lot of insurance companies find easier to total older cars than fix them.  As others have said, roudie autotragics are hard to find, much better odds of finding a square tail light autotragic 02.

You're right the Sahara part is fine, it just wasn't my first choice I guess. The salvage comes from the owner in a minor accident which needs the quarter panel replaced. It was apparently replaced with another OEM piece.

Are you looking at all for cars on the west coast? I've seen a few auto's out here. I have given some thought as to whether or not I want to sell mine. If I decide to, I'll let you know.

I have a great driving 69 2002 automatic in most of it's original Grenada red paint, California car its whole life. Very original, very solid. Lots of patina, but an honest car with records and original engine and trans. Getting ready to do some major work on my house, 3 02s and not enough time and money for all the projects. I have been considering selling as of late but not sure where to put it's value. If you are interested in it I can take some photos and send them your way.  I would like the car to stay as an original automatic because it is such a solid survivor car. It deserves to stay original since it has never been molested. Ill ask my fellow 02 friends who are more up to date on valuation of the car for a fair value.

Thanks,

Jeff

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
