other Essential Items To Update On 2002

From what I understand these cars were built with a bit of flex.  Give them forty years of use and they flex even more.  I have small cracks in the metal to prove it.  A strut brace stiffens things up and was an upgrade on my car. 

 

 

 

 

(As much as I want to do this, it is competing with the strut brace I installed... Who's done both??)

 

Would a brace like this work? Mason Engineering...

Things to update? Nothing.

However... As with any old car, a nose to tail replacement of every piece of rubber, bearing, bushing, and brake part should be done to make it safe and drive like stock new.

Toss any and all emissions equipment to make things simpler, unless you have a 1976 car in California, or some other weird place that emissions testing is required on a car that old. 

 

Most other stuff is fine for a daily driver.  Most of the suggestions you find are upgrades for personal tastes.  I ran points for many years, and they're the most simple and reliable system you can get.  I've driven cross country and countless highway journeys with 4-speed.

It seems like nobody keeps the stock solex carbs, though.  I have no personal experience with them, but its commonly accepted to switch to weber carbs.

I have the stock solex. I've done no maintenance or other fixes to it when I bought it in early spring this year and daily drove it this summer

The caneuter valve is known to go. Check it.
