FEELER: Custom Wood Shift Knobs...

As far as the thread goes, finding an insert shouldn't be too much difficulty. If I need to custom order them, I will need a preorder. If I had a metal lathe laying around I could produce them, but that will be time prohibitive. Fairly sure mcmaster stocks inserts in that size.

Here's a shift knob that my friend whittled for me out of a branch that she found on the sidewalk. I made the thread insert on a metal lathe. And yes, the tap was not easy to come by. I'll sell it to you if you're looking for one. I don't have any use for it anymore.

Looking good! That may be too pretty for my car....

I can get you measurements sometime soon on the one I posted if you would like. If you get a bunch of those threaded inserts I need one of those too, I still want the classic 8 ball shift knob.

I will happily buy it off you! email me!

An update for you guys... My shop is in far better shape and I am in the mood to make a few more knobs. email me for details. Soon enough if all goes as planned, I should have my own metal lathe which will decrease production time and increase quality. I can do paypal, certified check, or parts trade for payment.

Center emblems can be made as raised vinyl decals, and set in a shallow recess. Most trophy places can do it, as well as online sources, but they require minimum orders of 150+.

I have a bunch that I had made up, and they look like the older retro style used in 2002 and Bavaria models.

I have made many in wood and Corian, and you don't need a threaded insert for most materials, just run the tap into the center bore, and it holds just fine.

For the snap on style, I make retainers from brass pipe bushings, and add a set screw, and the insert is epoxied in place.

I got a "cease and desist" from the BMWNA legal department when I ran photos showing roundels in my knobs, so beware.

You run a great company over there, but a bit rude of you to come here just to improve traffic to your site. I never once tried to take your business, so it's only fair that you don't try to steal mine. To date I have had ONE buyer. Albeit one happy buyer (so I guess I have 100% positive feedback at this point ;) ), So for you to come along and post your site is just... odd... really. It's not like I'm taking any of your business.

Hello,

I really like the shift knobs you create and would like one done in mahaghony (stain) to match my steering wheel.   What is the cost and shipping to  Lancaster, Ca?  BTW.  Andrew at Ireland mentioned your work to me.  Thanks in advance.
