Windshield Wiper

Hey guys.

Just got my first 2002 and the wiper blade came off. The spline is still inside of it. The other side doesn't have a wiper but it had the spline. I was thinking take the nut that holds the spline on and put it onto the other wiper. But there is a clip on the inside of the wiper. My question is how do I take that off. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.

Thanks,

If you take a small screwdriver and pry that clip seen to the left of the splined piece, or use some needle-nosed pliers or hemostats and pull the notched part to the left, you will be able to remove the splined cylinder.

And '02 wipers don't use nuts to hold them on--the clip is what secures the wiper arm's base onto the splined shaft of the wiper linkage. I had an arm separate from the shaft on the interstate on a rainy day. Thankfully, it laid nicely on the louvers at the rear of the hood until I could get off at an exit and stick the arm back on!

Oh--and at least on the car, it's easier to remove the wiper arms when they're in the "up" position (lifted off the windshield). Putting it in that position may help you move the clip and get the broken shaft out.

Well I have one good spline on the passenger side. Can I swap where the arm mounts to the wiper linkage from side to side by removing the nut on the bottom on the body

Not sure on that--those shafts connect to the linkage under that panel. They may be different. I haven't messed with the linkage enough to give you a good answer, sorry. The diagrams on realoem.com might help you.
