Left Front Control Arm Contacting Steering Box

Thought I would add my experience from a recent front suspension and steering box rehab to this thread. My original steering box was shot so grabbed the one from my parts car, cleaned it up, and installed it. Like Issac, I found the output / pitman shaft extended too much, contacting the wishbone.

Briefly thought about shaving off or rearranging some metal on the wishbone but decided to find another steering box rather than mangle my new wishbone.

Once found, I compared it with the bad one. The photo below shows the pitman shaft on the bad box (bottom) extending about 3/8" further than the good box (top)  - enough to contact the wishbone.

This despite a thread or two remaining on the adjustment screw of the bad box (right).

Plan to tear apart the bad box to understand why the shaft extended so far.
