Fresh Fjord Project

Hey guys, I just bought myself a very solid 1976 2002. I've loved these cars ever since I first heard of them and how much fun they are. I found one for sale quite locally that had been sitting for a few years and I was sold before I even saw the car. After giving the car a good once-over and returning the next day with fresh tires and some tools and supplies, we got the car fired up and running smoothly. With a bit of fresh gas and a warm car, we trekked it home the two miles and the car didn't skip a beat. After a weekend trip for a wedding, I returned home and began work on the car. With a quick tune-up and some BBS 13's, the car hit the road. Since then I've been piecing together all of the parts I need and driving the car around town to keep it up.

What's your favorite of the 2 to drive? Mine's the BMW, just because that's the car I grew up loving.

I paid 1800 for the car and 100 for the wheels. It's been running beautifully even in the Arizona heat. After owning it for a bit and looking deeper into these cars, I found some interesting bits on the car. First, the owner had sold the car with a complete AC kit, after cleaning up the car and looking around in the bay, I noticed the car already has a full AC system installed. Also, I believe the car has the optional Recaros installed. I'll post more photos today of how the work is going.

She's a beaut, red on black is my favorite. Looks like your camber is off on the front, some weird outer tire wear. Hope your evaporator isn't destroyed like the rest of them :P Just replaced mine and it took me 3 days.

Back to the BMW, what A/C system does it have? I hope you keep it and don't rip it out like everyone does. Sure it's heavy, but when they're charged right they work really well. We bought our 74 as a shell just because it had a BEHR system in it.

So what are your plans for the 76 other than painting it? Anything on the interior?

If your talking about the smooth looking spot just inside the outside tread, it's a rib that runs along the tire, Conti DWS. I'm not sure which AC systems I have, I'll probably post a few photos and see what people think. As for my plans, I'm thinking about possibly re doing parts of the interior that need to be done. Overall it's not in bad shape, just a few things that need attention, mostly I need to find a center console as the car came with pieces of one, but not enough to make anything of it. I'm currently underway of working on the suspension and I hope to at some point rebuild and build up the M10 or go in and swap the motor.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
