I need help finding a shipper that will take my car from Tucson to Chicago, and then bring a car back. I'm trying to find a shipper with a smaller trailer. Any help would be great.

Thank you,

Andrew

This spring I needed to ship a 2002 from Tuscon to Chicago (although 1-way). The firm I used was called Honesty First; they arranged a shipper to do it for $700.

What they do is sell the contract to available transport firms who are willing to take the bid. i think they all work like that. So you don't deal directly with the transport company when establishing a price, but I'm sure you could specify that you want a smaller transport truck. Mine came on a fairly small trailer with two other cars.

Hope that helps!

Hugh

Hey Andrew,

I work in the international freight forwarder industry, we ship out cars internationally, but sometime we need to move vehicles from the east coast to the west coast or vice versa depending which port it is leaving. Anyway, i have used this Auto carrier in the past, very reliable services and pretty quick and cheap as well. They also have full insurance coverage.

Some things he usually asks will be...

Does it run?

Does it have brakes?

the location where the vehicle is at, will it accessible with a big rig?

He is a nice old man, no email so it will be done via phone, he probably gather up all the info and then return your call tomorrow or later.

uShip brings-in low bids, though I haven't used them yet:

I used Uship to get quotes for shipping my 2002 from CA to CO, and within 24 hours I had something like 10 emails and 7 phone calls. I ended up pulling a trailer behind the moving truck, but the quotes got lower and lower as more people called.

right-on, David.

I didn't list a phone & sat on the email bids which kept falling. though, I didn't get to use anyone, as the seller was a lying liar. so, I'm not saying the cheap bids will yield happiness with a shipper.

Strongly suggest you avoid the brokers and deal directly with one of the firms that are familiar with shipping older cars. I used Intercity Lines to ship my E-type last year and was 100% happy with the service.

I've used the "open" type carriers via brokers before, and every time I had some kind of a problem, ranging from the entire car covered with a thick layer of oily grim to bent suspension parts where the cars were tied down, etc.

We use HorselessCarriage, Intercity, and Reliable-carriers.com. Many of these cars are six figure engineering and/or styling prototypes. In the last 8 years, we've only had 2 of cars damaged, and in each case the followup was excellent.

I had great luck with this guy:

He shipped my Betty (well, he arranged for shipping of Betty) from Iowa to Connecticut. Took 7 days or so, and they called with a status update all along the way.

Biggest difference with him is that you don't pay a dime until the car is delivered. Give him a call or email - good guy.

I needed a car, and a hobby....

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
