starting problems after installing Hot Spark

Recommended Posts

I thought it would be an easy day, installing a Hot Spark electronic ignition in my 74 02'. I had a brain lapse and did not remove the distributor at TDC...I had a few other chores to get done, and I was too hasty. For the record, I am not a mechanic. The install went fine, but after lining up the crank pulley to the pointer and setting the rotor in its proper place...I tried to start the car. No go, I moved the distributor in both directions...nothing. It cranks, sputters a bit...but no ignition. Very frustrated. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

Reset the crankshaft back to tdc .. Now look at the flywheel hole(timing) by the rear of the motor, do you see the mark. Open the valve cover make sure that both #1 are resting away from the lobes of the camshaft. Then open the distributor cap, is the rotor pointing the mark? If not readjust distributor make sure rotor points the mark. Start the car, you will still need to time it. Hope this helps.

Make sure you have it on TDC at the end of the compression stroke, not the exhaust stroke.
